Man law violation!

Unread postby Casper » Sat Nov 12, 2011 1:35 am

I'll report it on myself. Shot a hitlist cull buck this morning. He's dead at 50 yards but I have two tags, so I'm going to sit a little longer. Pics and story later :D

I think there is a loop hole that states if you are still hunting you are ok.

I woke up this morning at 4:00 am. I wanted to make sure that I was on stand atleast an hour before light because I knew it was going to be crunchy with the snow and cold temps this morning. I walked on my toes the entire way in, I tried sounding like a cruising buck since it was pointless to try to sneak in. I figured I mine as well make it obvious that I am no threat if there were any deer in hearing range. I got into stand at 5:15 without busting any deer as far as I know.

Here is my entrance. The field I walk through is pasture land that the deer don't use unless they are crossing. Once I hit the woods I go down a ditch and up a ravine, my stand is over he pinch point that they cross. It is at the bottom of a north facing slope, but its the spot where I get pics of a lot of deer. Generally I can sit there the first hour, hour and half with a south wind before the thermal tunnel starts working.

Here are some pics of what I was looking at:

Behind me, you can see the ditch, ravine, and field.

As it was getting light I could hear deer crunching around on the hillside above me. I saw them as soon as it got light enough out, about 100 yards from me. One was being followed by the other, so I decided to give a few grunts just in case it was a buck following a doe. About thirty seconds later I here a deer responding coming from my right. I got the bino's on him and could tell it was a buck from my hitlist (the very bottom of it). I grabbed my bow and waited for him to get past me so I could draw. I stopped him right where they cross the ravine. Told my self to "stay calm, pick a spot" and let it fly. Hit right where I was aiming. Took out lungs and the top of the heart. He ran about 40-50 yards and piled up.

This buck was on the bottom of my hitlist. Im pretty sure he is 3.5, I wasn't about to go out of my way to shoot him, but wasn't going to pass him if I saw him. First time that I have seen him in person. I'm happy with him. I have had a pretty rough November so far.
