Sounds like a liver hit to me also... Looks like the typical dark red liver blood...
I hope you did not push him when you tracked him. They generally bed fairly quickly, but if they think there being followed can go a long ways. They usually die within 4 hours. But in some cases live 6 or more hours if its not a center hit. They like to head for water with liver hits... I have found many liver hit deer in rivers and ponds. Good luck!

Totally broadside. I had a feeling when I picked this tree that this is one of the spots I would get a really good shot at shooting a deer. I had it ranged and was fully confident with the shot. I didnt see the arrow hit so I really have no idea what happened.

was it clear do you think your arrow struck a limb and defelcted alittle :?

if it warms enough to melt the snow the blood will be there if it's only a dusting. good luck.

You are correct!! Went to spot where I left the blood trail last night and where the snow had melted it looked like fresh blood again :D . Backed out to wait till this snow is gone, so went and found the arrow right where I shot him. Full of blood and no fat or anything else but blood on it but blood. Sure hope when my buddy gets here we can find him.

Great job on finding the arrow. To me I thing that is a VERY important step in the recovery. Blood and no guts should be a dead deer.

Good luck on your recovery and keep us posted.

From the color red - it appears to be a little darker and for that i would say liver. Granted each computers graphics or the camera you used could be slightly off, but it certainly doesn't look bright with bubbles...
