Alex's redemption buck
Opening night Alex drew fat and white hair off a real giant. Long story short we found a few pin drips of blood a.d that was it.
Tonight we went back to the same acorn transition flat he has shot every one of his deer off of. Yesterday was a sweet cold front and instead of it being 87° like days past it topped out at 68° with a NW wind.
We bumped 3 doe off the acorns walking in but set up anyway knowing deer would filter through closer to prime time. About 6pm 3 doe came walking up the ridge and 2 bucks followed about 75 yards behind. The larger buck started hitting some scrapes while the rest fed around. Eventually he worked into 45 yards and we readied for the shot. He lined him up and "CLICK".... Misfire?
He trotted off but wasnt too spooked as the wind was covering us a bit. At 60 yards he went broadside again and Alex lined up another shot... "CLICK" WTFudge? Fortunately the deer was far enough off the clicks didnt bother him. I grabbed the gun and quietly racked it again. I gave it an eyeball and noticed something... the safety was ON!! I got that figured out and we waited for the buck to go broadside. Fortunately he had walked closer to about 40 yards and this time thg old cowboy gun barked, the deer bucked, and the white flag waved.
We gave him 20 minutes and went to where we last saw him. Very little blood but I saw the bullet hit so continued down the path. Suddenly he opened up and shortly after that walked up on him. I really hate those Leverevolutions, super accurate but garbage blood trails for the first 50-75 yards.
Anyway, Alex was super happy and so was I. Always good to break the ice during youth season. 1 down, 2 to go.

Great buck Alex. Congrats.
I think you better let that young man sign up for the Beast buck contest. I see a lot more bucks in his future.

Dang man congrats!
Just switched to those bullets, I will have to pay attention to the blood trails. But not much choice for ammo in .32wspl.
