1200 miles for a long weekend of hunting.... SUCCESS!!!
Made the drive from Michigan to wyoming over the labor day weekend. I did not have any vacation time as I have a Iowa tag that will eat all the rest of my time in November. There was 5 of us that were in camp and I would have to fly back to Michigan on Tuesday for work. This was a tent camp trip hunting public property, we have been hunting wyoming for a number of years now and we always have a blast.
The first few days were very slow for us. A combination of heavier hunting pressure, dry conditions, and areas that had been logged had us searching more than hunting. On Monday we had nothing going for the morning hunts, so I suggested we spend the morning moving again trying to find some bucks or spots the guys would be able to hunt mornings the rest of the week. We ended up glassing a number of valleys with a couple ponds in the bottoms. We caught two bucks heading for cover and tried to get in front of them. We dove into a drainage and snuck to a small rise on a point. There was perfect cover between the two of us and the bucks. The smaller of the two bucks disappeared into the cover, while the larger one made its way into a clearing for a shot just before he would have also dipped into the cover. I made a soft grunt to stop him and touched one off. My arrow found its mark but landed a tick high, dropping the deer instantly. A quick follow up shot was made, and the buck was mine!!!!

Good way to start season! Congrats on a good one.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

First of all, congrats man!!! I've noticed Jake's posts in the past, and he is a real humble guy, but don't let him fool you, he's a killer! I actually talked to Jake about two weeks ago, and he told me about his tight window to get in done in Wyoming. Congrats again man!
This post is kind of perfect timing if anyone wants to hear more from Jake, he is the latest guest on my podcast (link below) and we talked a lot about his early season tactics in Wyoming. I literally just finished editing about 20 minutes ago.
