One more thing I didn't mention, which is a HUGE bummer. I was wearing my GoPro when I left the truck. I turned it on (I thought--it was already on my head) to check the connection to my GoPro app on my phone. The app showed my battery was dead, but I was 90% sure I grabbed a fully charged battery right before I went out. GoPro batteries kind of suck and don't last all that long, so I thought "eh, whatever, its almost 90 degrees, I probably won't see anything worth shooting anyway" and went on my way. What I should have done was take the camera off my head and double check it manually (not through phone app). So, I end up shooting the deer. On the way back to truck to get kill kit, I think "Man, I can't believe stupid battery was dead, that would have been AMAZING footage". I take camera off my head and attempt to turn it on manually using power button on camera and not through the app. To my absolute disgust, it turns on and battery is at 92% :? So, I was wearing a fully charged camera the entire time, and didn't try to turn it on because I assumed after initially trying to turn it on the battery was dead. I am SUPER happy with the buck, but a little soul crushed I was that close to getting it on camera and didn't.

Thanks JM! Man, shooting a buck with some flyers/stickers has been a life long dream. I couldn't pass up the bird in the hand and so happy I decided to shoot. Good luck to you this fall, even though you don't need any stinking luck!

Thanks Dave, hope you're recovering quick and strong like bull for rest of bow season!

Mgaspari wrote:Awesome.I am right there with you on the uniqueness of a rack. I am normally looking for 150 plus but a weird rack shows up and all of a sudden I get the worst buck fever.
Congratulations. Love the spaded out side, that is beyond cool

Thanks man! I have yet to shoot a real giant (150"+), but man, this buck was so cool and still solid, the closer he got, the more I knew I was shooting if things went right.

Thanks man! Not one I will probably ever forget. It just doesn't go down like that too often.

Appreciate it dude! Definitely 10/10 on fun and memories made scale!

Hookslinger wrote:Great story and tank of a buck. Good job man!

Thanks man! It's so weird shooting early season bucks. The thin cape and not rutted out neck make them a lot harder for me to judge. I think that was a big part of reason I thought it was smaller than it actually was.

Kokes wrote:Awesome start to the ‘21 “SEAZon” for ya :)
super pumped for you… what’s next on the hit list?

Haha, "SEAZon" love that! Next on the hit list is bull elk on weekends (REAL longshot, but I'm going to give it all I got), and maybe a few more spot and stalk archery antelope hunts after work. I am an embarrassing 0 for 3 or 0 for 4 on shots now (all 60+ yards). I'm pretty good at 7 yards...not nearly as good on windy plains at 60+ on the most skittish animal in the west  Not making excuses, but its also hard to range an EXACT spot on open grass country, so I think at least twice, my ranges were off. I've shot short on every single shot at antelope. I'm dumb and stubborn though, so I will keep trying.

Thanks Ryan! Good luck this fall!

RidgeGhost wrote:Nice job man! Still a lot of season left for you to keep after it!

Yea man, definitely nice to have a solid buck down early. I'm trying to keep my expectations realistic while keeping my ambition super high. Hopefully, the rest of the season will go this well. Fingers crossed.

Man thats an awesome deer and an even more so awesome hunt! When it is on the ground the intensity in my opinion is super high but when it’s on the ground and they are within 10 yards, the level of adrenaline flowing is almost unmatched! Way to get it done on really cool racked whitetail! That’s one that will not soon be forgotten. Holding it together when they are that close is no easy task! Congrats buddy, very well done!
