PA buck down
After some cyber scouting I picked out a nice transition line of thicket to hardwoods. I waited until grey light to walk in and pick out my exact tree. I took my time slipping in and picked a tree that would give me good cover and a short shot to where the thicket meets the hardwoods. I hung my stand and had a doe and a yearling come in 45 minutes after being set. The doe got my wind and blew for about 20 minutes, trying to head bob and get eyes on me, stomping, the whole 9. After not being able to pinpoint me, she went off with her yearling. I had no action for about the next hour. Then I saw a big rack stand up 100yds into the thicket. I couldn't really make him out, but it looked like he was moving away from me. I let out a couple grunts and saw the rack turn my direction. He took a few latteral steps then I lost sight of him. 5 minutes went by and I caught a glimpse of the rack again moving tward me. Then lost sight of it again. Next sighting was a doe paralleling the transition line. She was just deep enough that I would not have had a ethical shot even if I wanted it. I was feeling discouraged at this point, given I had a feeling the buck was in toe. Sure enough 1-2 minutes after she had passed I saw him coming through. And to my surprise, he was closer to me by 5 yds. He was directly on the transition line. He got to the first window and I let the 25yd shot rip. I saw the arrow hit a little back. I decided to back out and came back to start the track job 6 hours later. After losing blood after 60 yrs. We ended up jumping the buck. I was sick to my stomach. The blood trail was dark red liver blood no doubt about it. The arrow had no smell of gut whatsoever. With cold weather moving in we backed out and planned on coming back in the morning. I met 2 friends and my uncle out there. After only 10 minutes we found blood right where I jumped him. And started down a pretty good trail for 60 yards. At the end of the trail was this guy in a dead fall. As happy as I was to make the recovery, I couldnt help but be a little upset with myself for the poor shot.

Re: PA buck down
AWESOME BUCK MAN! another PA boy here...
Those transitions as you described are the only way I hunt anymore. I've killed 3 on my last 13 sits now. 2 in Pa and 1 in Ohio the last 2 years thanks to the beast. Those transition lines are killer! Glad you found him. Sounds like you did everything right. I've liver hit some and also jumped them but in the end they never seem to really run that far and give good blood, just takes several hours for them to die.
Way to go! I love cheering on my fello beasts from PA. That is truly an awesome buck to be proud of.

Re: PA buck down
awesome buck congrats!
I really like the coming in at grey light method as well when you are going in blind..seems to work well and allows you to really dial in your set up, pick the best tree, review sign, etc. Nice job!

Nice PA buck! Even though you hit him farther back, you did a great job being patient with your tracking. I like seeing the success of my fellow PA Beast hunters.
