Thought Liver...it was guts IN Public Land

Unread postby Cutter » Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:49 am

Yesterday I shot a buck I thought was in the liver. The blood ran sparse so we Backed out and wanted to come back with a dog. Called atleast 20 trackers luckily one guy said he would drive down. I had a nice chunk of change I was going to donate to this man. Let's say more than a couple Benjamin's for his service. We were supposed to meet today at noon. The guy flat stood us up, never showed. My dad and I were riding highs and lows over the whole situation. Knew the buck was dead but where? So we had to go after him ourselves. I combed a ridge top with no blood or sign of the buck. Finally I asked myself where would a buck go to die...back to his bed. I dropped down to the bottom of the ridge and started combing supposed bedding. I found tons of beds, with one that stood out. Lots of hair and rut musk. I knew it was my buck and he had to be close. I combed the bedding no deer. Then finally in a clearing 50 yards away just on the edge of bedding there my buck layed. A true public land monster. The highs and lows of bowhunting are so real. I'm so thankful I found this buck and his meat was still good.
