Found my first "Hanger" shed on public
I went out to get some scouting done and took a look at where I want to setup this fall. As I approached I saw a shed in a tree about 3 feet off the ground. I thought someone must have put it there but after looking at it the shed got caught on a tree the buck was rubbing. After looking the spot over this shed was right on the trail the buck uses to go from bedding to food in thick marsh. Hope I kill him this season.

Nice find! Don't know that I have ever heard of anyone finding one stuck in a tree naturally.

The rub looked like a 2.5 yr old by the height of the rub so it could be. Im assuming the shed is from a good 2.5 yr old. Its funny because after looking everything over for 45 minutes I decided my kill tree is 20 yards from where I found the shed in the rub. I have a crick entry and exit so Im excited about that too.
I almost want to go back in there cut the tree and make a display with the antler on it. Its public land though so I cant and he might use that rub nect year.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Maybe the loose rack was irritating the buck so he was hooking it in the tree trying to break it free.

good stuff. I found a hanger on my land on Saturday off a 2.5 year old 12 point I think he was last year., it was my 2nd hanger ever I think. I found one the year before also. I was a bit taken aback when I seen it cause I almost walked right by it and wasn't really expecting to find it there.

My brother found one a few years back hanging in a laurel bush and we thought that he must have lost one side and been irritated and tried to pull the other side off. The laurel bush it was hanging in had broken branches in it like he hooked the antler and pulled...it didn't just accidentally fall in there or fall off when he was browsing...
