Ever see "One Man's Wilderness"?

Unread postby xpauliber » Mon Feb 25, 2013 4:31 pm

This is a clip from "One Man's Wilderness". Dick Proenekke headed for Alaska in 1968 and built a cabin and lived off the land for I believe 30 years up there. I want to get the DVD. Has anyone seen the whole thing?

I really enjoyed watching it . I've seen it a bunch of times and even have it on vhs tape. I was amazed at his ability to build stuff. What was also kinda strange was he said he wasn't anti social yet he seemed content to live his life alone. It would be fun to do what he did but it wouldn't be fun to live 30+ years basically alone.

Yes I have seen it. I could be wrong, but as I understand it he did not spend every winter in the bush. But all in all a very interesting man and story.

Where did you get the DVD?

I agree that it would be neat to do, but I don't know if I want to do it for 30 years. At times, I definitely feel like I was born 150 years too late and 300 miles too far East, but since I've been spoiled with electricity, running water, and hunting forums, I don't know that I could voluntarily plunge myself into the "good 'ole days" :D

great show. I watch it whenever it comes on. that guy is real handy and crafty. I like the outdoors, but I couldn't do what he did. the solitude would be hard. maybe a week, but that would be it.

Just watched Part 1 and 2 on PBS. Really awesome and think that would be really cool to try living that way. Sounds like he lived there till he was 82 years old before finally admitting the winters were just to tough to handle anymore.

Here is a sample.
