Taking a break. Going to go after some grouse.

Unread postby cspot » Tue Dec 24, 2019 1:41 pm

Been doing alot of deer hunting this fall and was planning on doing some more this weekend when we go to camp. Downside is temps are supposed to be almost 60 degrees and wind out of the South. GUn season just finished up so the deer are pretty nocturnal and the couple places we want to focus on we really need a wind that isn't out of the south. Talked to my son tonight and I think we will leave the bows at home and just take the shotguns after some grouse and squirrels. Not a ton of grouse down there, but we have a couple of ridges that usually hold a few. Be nice for a change of pace after chasing deer all fall. The following weekend is the late muzzleloader season and it looks like some colder temps which should be good for getting back after the deer.

Upland, small game and waterfowl can be a very refreshing change. I really want to go after some snipe before it closes... time is just so limited.

Please share some pics.

Breaks are important sometimes too. I wish we had ice here so I could take one and do some fishing.

You gotta do what you gotta do to keep the fire fresh, especially in late season. Sometimes, chasing birds, squirrels, or other game are good ways to refresh certain skill sets and your mind anyways.

Have fun! Be safe! Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Well the grouse hunting wasn't too good. We did make it out for a bit on Friday and Saturday. My daughter was sick on Friday and my wife wanted to go site seeing down at the town below our camp, so we only hunted a couple of hours each day. I think we flushed 3 and had a couple of misses. I thought we would get into them a bit more. Did find a good spots potentially for the late season deer hunting. :D They were working on a gaswell back in the woods and just planted something there. Hopefully it is growing in a couple of weeks.
