Location bugle.
Cow call.
Challenge bugle.

Those three calls, used appropriately, can be magical.

Would like to have about your experience when you get back and hopefully lessons that could help. A buddy from Indiana and I plan on going out west next year and are already starting the prep. We started putting into Wyoming for a preference point this year and plan to OTC either Colorado or Idaho next year. Idaho is our number one OTC due to the great pricing for vets with a 40% rating or higher.

I will post pics and a write up when I get back and you can pm me if you have questions.
Are you base camping or bivey hunting and have you started looking at gear?
Boots, pack and sleep setup are huge

We plan to backcountry hunt it. Hike up in for 3-5 days come back down refit and do it again. We both like the ideal of chasing elk in September with a bow. Were still gearing up, I think the boots I'm going to try for my first pair are crispy Colorado GTX's. idk what ill get for my backup pair yet. We both were in the infantry together and have done tons of hiking with a pack on and know we'll want to get some quality frame packs to hunt with. We both want to eventually go after a mule deer too so long range optics are on the shopping list too. We also need to do some more research on elk vocalizations and calling strategies. A lot to learn but its something we want to do now while were still in good shape.

Good choice on the Crispi boots. I have Summits and love them.
If you’ve never elk hunted there’s nothing like hearing your first bugle. It will get you hooked.

As for packs and such,
I have a mystery ranch sawtooth and love it.
My Binoculars are Vortex diamondbacks 8*42. Love them and the warranty. Just sent them in and had them gone through. They were back in my hands in under 2 weeks.
If you’re going to buy gear I recommend asking guys here on the Beast.we won’t lead you a stray

You got that right! There’s nothing like having an elk come sneaking in on you unexpectedly after giving out a few soft calls…..that is until you have one come thundering in to the call like a freight train! Talk about a rush!!!
