Great video showing how deadly that shot can be. Have haven that shot twice with similar results.

That's awesomeness all the way around. All I have to say about the front shot is aim high. I took that shot on a buck in '09 (when I stopped him he'd go from broadside to facing me... he did it twice in a row) and hit lower than I wanted to. I hit the dark swirl on his chest, but was aiming 1.5-2" higher than that. The arrow hit the top of his sternum, glanced off, and skidded between his leg and rib cage. He was 18 yards I felt great about the shot.

I left down the fence line back to the truck and next thing I know he's laying 10 yards in front of me staring at me! He must have been close to dead but I froze, knocked another arrow, and shot him instinctive. The broadhead cut all the vessels heading down the leg.

The front of their chest comes to an extreme "V" at the bottom and you need a little neck meat to get the arrow started in. A friend of mine took a strait on shot on video and the same thing happened, except his arrow lodged in the leg. Never found that buck. I'm a huge proponent for aiming real low on broadside shots (low hit means good blood trail) but not on the front shot. AIM HIGH!

You are right, it doesn't take much one way or another for a deer to go far with little blood on a frontal hit, but when it goes good it's dramatic

I e rifle shot 4, 3 fell dead, one a LITTLE left and she went 150 yards and had to find her the next day. Wouldn't take that shot with my longbow.

I posted it to show the effectiveness of a good sharp Broadhead. I had a buddy shoot one with an old razorhead with bleeders this year. You would have sworn it was shot with a rifle

You're right things can go wrong quickly. Its a small kill zone on a front shot. I decided I'll only do it from the ground at 15 yds or less. The elk in this video is quartering quite hard for a front shot IMO, but he put the arrow where he needed to.

The front shot is definitely controversial. The thing is, poking an arrow in the chest cavity that far forward is doing major damage. You're getting major pulmonary arteries, and possibly carotid arteries feeding the brain. You can also cut the wind pipe. Its a risky shot but EXTREMELY lethal... as we just saw...

I have had quite a few deer die just as fast with a double lung or heart shot. Never knew what hit them and just fell over dead without barely taking a step. Much higher percentage shot too. I would never try a full frontal shot like that on a deer, there's too much room for error. An elk is a much bigger target.

Not saying nobody should take it just saying it's not for me.

I rifle shot a buck in the chest in 2013. He was at 40 yards. He went down within 10 yards. I found the bullet next to his ying yang.
I remember hearing that the guys from whitetail adrenaline really like the chest shot but they are on the ground and usually within 15 yards with the bow.
If you can get broadside shot, that is best. But the chest shot at close rang is effective.

That was awesome. I seen a doe shot in the chest before with a 20 ga. She went maybe 30yrds. She had a much larger hole in her but then she woke up with.
