My Hero

Unread postby Boogieman1 » Sat Sep 11, 2021 10:47 am

Will save you the ramble and start up front by saying my Dad is my fishing Hero. No particular talent, or gods gift. He taught me at a very young age the importance of giving it my best and trusting my eyes more than my ears. Never got any easy answers from the man and he flat refused any short cuts. He “highly” encouraged me to get out of the house as a child and to go make some memories. I don’t no what the verbiage for woodsmanship on the water is but he taught me what’s important and what is not. Pops is dang near 80 now and u can bet your sweet rear that if it ain’t storming he’s out on the water. Don’t fish with him as much as I should. But will say it’s always fun and some serious crap talking going on in that boat! Love ya pops.

Couple of lunkers right there!! Good to hear your old man is still kicking but at 80, make some time to hang with him while you can.

I hear ya! I try to spend more time with him these days. He’s a bass fishing fanatic and I enjoy crappie fishing. Plus he now enjoys the fun of tournament fishing and traveling to distant waters for the challenge. Must say though…. Those lunkers he’s holding up after winning the tournament were caught behind my house on my lake. Don’t let him pretend any different! Just saying….

Sounds like a great man. Sharing a love of the outdoors is a great bond. Enjoy the memories and keep making more.

Thank you! To be truthful I think it’s easy to share a passion for something you love with a child. I have always had great fun with my dad fishing bonding over a common interest. But my father never gave a hoot about deer hunting. He took me as a kid just because his boy wanted to go. He never even carried a weapon and he hasn’t been deer hunting since. Now that I’ve got older and have a child of my own I look back and truly understand exactly what he was doing. I feel bad some kids don’t get that support/opportunity. My life might have ended up completely different.

Very cool Boogie. Sounds like an awesome Dad! Living life to the fullest and enjoying doing what he has a passion for, doesn’t get much better than that.

I called him this morning and he’s only 76 and according to him just entering his prime. I thought he was 78 for some reason. And no surprise he was loading up the boat to head out. Told him to get a job loser

The best day of my life! I was the fastest swimmer in my class… 8-)

Pops has always been a bit of a show off. Pay no attention, he isn’t even the best fisherman in his own family

After many years of dads lessons things started to come together. But don’t tell him I said that
