I have a LX 5 and LX 7 both are awesome units. never had a problem. had the LX 7 for 4 seasons now and the LX5 I picked up last year! I also have the Marcum VS825 under water camera. I fish the Winnebago system, my equipment takes a beating every weekend from running and gunning , falling off my tail gate onto the ice or my shanty blowing away and my Marcum and the transducer getting dragged 100 yards on the ice before I caught up to it 
. it still works just as fine as the day I bought it.
your unit is just a bad apple it happens. my buddy just got a FL18 , when he turned it on right out of the box, it was rattling so hard it vibrated off his table
not sure what happened with that .......
