Bonefish

Unread postby csoult » Wed Aug 04, 2021 12:55 am

Went with the family to Turks and Caicos on vacation and decided to take along my fly rod in hopes of chasing some bone fish. Well on the last day there I was finally able to get away for about two hours. I did some research and settled on a small tidal lake and began my hunt. I say hunt, because fishing for bonefish is a visual hunt for the fish, then cast to the target. It can be very exiting once you've spotted the fish and knowing that you only have one or two chances at them before they cruise off.

Well, I searched for for about an hour and a half and knew my time was about up when I spotted them 20 yards away cruising off a point. Casts to these fish have to be accurate, and my first one was not quite where it needed to be so I quickly made one more cast. It was on target and the fish took it, I strip set and the fight was on. I have to say that for its size I've never fought a fish that strong. It took 3 really good runs before I got him in.

I was lucky enough to check another thing off the bucket list, what a blast!

You done well!

Never fishing for them and getting one on a fly is excellent. Tough fighting fish too.

Awesome. We’re heading out for the family vacation here soon. I’m packing my fly fishing gear in hopes of getting away for a few minutes like you have done. Glad you had a great time.

Top shelf fish right there. That’s one of the more fun fishing trips I’ve done.
