52 Wolves in First Day

Unread postby Tim H » Wed Feb 24, 2021 2:41 am

Several kill photos have been shared with me so I'm not too surprised of the number. I think the dog hunters are releasing some pent-up frustration and are doing what it takes to fill the quota.

Wolf Harvest Zones 2,5,6 Will Close To Hunting And Trapping Effective 10 a.m. Feb. 24

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today wolf harvesting Zones 2,5,6 will close to hunting and trapping gray wolves effective 10 a.m., Feb. 24. At that time, the zones will close to any further hunting and trapping of wolves for the February 2021 wolf harvest season.

With this closure, a total of three wolf harvest zones have closed this season. The DNR advises wolf hunters and trappers they can currently continue to pursue wolves in Zones 1,3,4.

The department will announce additional zone closures through news releases, notification at dnr.wi.gov, and via the telephone information system, 1-855-299-9653. It is each hunter and trapper's responsibility to verify and abide by zone closures. The department encourages hunters and trappers to check the website and call-in number daily.

Wow, that's actually a surprisingly high number.

Of course, I had no idea what to expect, but it's more than I thought.

Congrats.

We had a single bear season a few years back, if I recall over 200 were killed day 1

Then they cancelled it under pressure from treehuggers and politics

Currently we have 1000’s and their numbers keep growing.

Glad you guys got the wolf hunt!

I'm all for it. Those numbers should prove there is plenty around if you ask me.

I saw that video Dewey. It’s interesting how the think they are saving a wolf by burning a permit. Jeez that only leaves opportunity to 3,999 others.

Just hope everyone is following the rules. We need to keep these seasons going. Don’t need anybody giving ammunition to these idiots to make hunters look bad. You know that’s their goal to capture that stuff and use against wolf hunters.

I agree! I was talking to a buddy today about how we need balance. The way I see it there are wolf patrol idiots and hunting idiots. Wolf patrol wants every wolf to live in peace. A hunting idiot wants them extinct. Let's meet in the middle with a compromise to get a healthy wolf population. One where the wolves are not costing money, but instead bringing in money. I respect and appreciate a wolf. But in my opinion they need to be managed just like anything else. The wolf is one part of the ecosystem and nature. They shouldn't be treated as anything different.

Exactly. I think we as hunters easily understand that concept unfortunately the anti’s have no middle ground.

304 bears total. It was ridiculous. Private land owners were begging hunters to come kill the bears on their property. I remember before the hunt seeing fliers looking for hunters with tags to hunt their property to remove the bears. That is how my buddy got his bear.
