I like to shoot Winchester 4s in 3 1/2" 12 ga. I take some long pokes and this has worked. But I was amazed at what a #6 2 3/4" did out of my old 16 ga single for my nephew. He dropped a 18 lb jake at almost 40 yds. At the shot it looked dead before it hit the ground.

Ack those broadheads look wicked, but this is what arrowbender did to a bird with a guillotine.
Grind that scene up and looks like you got some delicious turkey burger :L:

The 3.5" #4 federal out of the bps 10ga puts them down hard. No reason to be under gunned. But I am going to switch to the heavy shot nitros this year they are spendy though about $10 a shot.

Remington 870 with a primos tightwad choke patterned best with Remington 3" #5 - out of all the shells I tried. I tried the winchester supreme 3 1/2" in a #6, but the pattern seemed to spread out quite a bit, and Im thinking it is because there are too many BBs in there that all hit each other and then head outward. I know its not like the best pattern or anything, but this is what the gun does with those #5s at 30 yards.

I would like to try a bunch more different shells, but they are simply too expensive to buy and try 15 different shells..

Maybe we should start a 3" swap so guys can try different shells. I know I have AT LEAST 3 different brands/shot size

Funny you should mention that..I was JUST thinking the other day how cool it would be if someone would sell boxes of shells that came with like 8-10 different loads in them so you could test out which ones worked best for you..

I would gladly do it if I knew I could sell them all, but Id hate to be stuck with 20 different $20 boxes of shells.

Hey jlh- let me see what I have next time I go home and I might hit you up on your offer (although I dont know the rules about shipping ammunition??)

# 5's pattern best for me I got 1187 3" with an undertaker choke. I use the turkey loads that did'nt pattern well for crow hunting.

Same loads I use. Love them! I shoot a Rem 870 Mag with a Gobblin Thunder tube. It will reach out and get them if need be

I've been shooting federal with flite control wad. Been using #5 but going try #6 got some to try. When patterning I tried win supreme, federals, kent, and remingtom. I just patterned the best with federal shooting a 870 with red dot. I should try Hevi shot their kinda pricey but if it patterns better maybe worth it. Been happy with federals.
