Beaver dams

Unread postby LenH » Wed Mar 31, 2010 5:54 am

they are NOT good long term.
They make the water warmer and mess up the PH level.
They obstruct spawning movement

They are very dangerous too.
Beaver runs.
Beaver left over stakes out of the ground.

Thumbs down to longer term beaver dams.

If i find a new beaver dam I always fish it.
Old beaver dam are attractive to anglers but in longer run bad for the stream.

Thanks for the info Len. How's this season going? We have been out a few times and haven't seen the numbers of fish that we saw last year but we are checking out a lot of new water.

I like fishing beaver dams, Len's points regarding stream ecology and the impact they have is certainly something to consider.
