Re: Do you guys get nervous?
I'm nervous and getting the shakes for next year already.
Back to the question...I'm excited but collective and then the release and when it hits I let the monkeys off my back tenfold. Such a relief...The ADDICTION!!! You all know on here what I'm Talkin about!!!

Heart rate picks up, shakes afterwards... Get the same feeling after walking for hours and finding a big shed antler... Try it if you have not, it is addicting

Re: Do you guys get nervous?
For the most part now I 'keep it together' before the shot & ater iis when I 'loose' it. This year though I started to shake pretty bad on the 3rd encounter with my buck, I came close to shooting him (drew on him) when he first came out then he hung around for close to 10 minutes then came back in I was pretty jazzed @ that point.
When I'm behind the camera I get the shakes easier then when I'm in front of it.

Used to. After screwing up on several nice bucks and a giant when I was younger, I finally realized the time to get excited is after the shot. Now I almost get downright mad when I'm going to draw down on a big buck. The deer is enemy number one when I decide to kill it. For some reason it helps me focus on making the best kill shot. It works for me.

Before the shot I am focused like a laser. After the shot I'm usually excited, nervous, total wreck sometimes...Sometimes I am just relaxed, relieved and grateful, depends on the situation.

usually if I have deer around me I can calm my nerves as they approach... but after the shot I am a shaking fool sometimes :) but that is part of the fun...

Re: Do you guys get nervous?
Its tough.
If things happen fast, i react accordingly. No time to get anxious.
Now, lets say a pig buck steps out 350 yards on the other side of a hay field and he will come my way but it will take 1 hour or forever.
There would be times it would hit me, and then me trying to settle down. And hopefully by the time the buck was within range i would pull it together......lol
I think as time goes on.........using a ' what is my next step'? theory is helping me.
When i focus on what needs to happen next (bow ready? Shooting lane? Deers travel path? Where will it possibly stop? What are my options?) these types of things help me try to settle down if I have already identified an animal to take. Always trying to think of the next task to accomplish in order to pull it off.
Sure is nice when its a 2 min. Or so encounter. Ha.....that dont always happen

I keep it together pretty good before the shot, but after the shot I shake like I have hypothermia.

Re: Do you guys get nervous?
I voted after...due to the majority if the time that's when I get nervous. I have literally held onto my harness tether for support while hanging my bow before.
However there have been many situations where I've gotten nervous before the shot. If I have to watch a buck from a long ways come in....then once he nears bow range I get pretty jittery and have to force myself to calm down.
Also if its a deer I've been after and I think he is going to finally come in range....same thing, old jittery but!
I can mostly hold things together to get a smooth shot off, but once the string settles my nerves come untied!!
Cool survey. I've often wondered the same thing of other hunters.

Re: Do you guys get nervous?
Depends on the situation at hand. Typically get the shakes after shooting at any critter. I feel like the nerves are what keep us sharp and coming back for more. Like the saying goes "not sure why the rest of the world doesn't do this". Its a major rush for me.

Re: Do you guys get nervous?
Well as long as I am sitting down I am fine. But as soon as I stand an commit to taking the shot. I get nervous but when I draw the bow it is like I go into auto mode an I am fine. Then after the shot there is a slow release of adrenaline. Bow hunting is great.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
