What deer attractant do you use for trail cams

Unread postby BigHills BuckHunter » Fri Aug 05, 2011 4:21 pm

Im going to be putting out my trail camera on top of an alfalfa ridge surrounded by hardwoods. The field is pretty big so I want to get the deer in front of my cam. What attractants do you guys use for this sort of thing. I used to be against putting out anything except salt blocks but Im now willing to try something new if it works for you guys. Any recomendations? Thanks

sweet feed (horse feed) works really well for me. it's cheap and doesn't stand out like bright yellow corn.

Minerals work well in the summer, corn in the fall... Check your local laws to make sure its legal.

Sweet Feed. It smells delicious and deer smell it for miles and miles...

Im going today to get more only this time im doing 50lb of corn and 50lb of sweet. Problem with sweet is it breaks down if it gets rained on hard.

Put it looking out over a natural runway entering the field and take a shovel and make a so called mock scrape. Bucks love the smell of fresh earth regardless of putting down an attractant. If legal, use buckjams or minerals. I am going to be putting 3 cams out here this week for the first time. I'm kind of old school with technology, but am going to give this trail cam thing a shot.

Many guys have their own homemade recipes for mineral, if legal to use.

Good luck and hope you get some good ones on cam for your efforts.

Hey guys I decided to try trophy rock. I put on the edge of the alfalfa field but I dug a ring around the block. Put the camera close behind I hope its not too close to the block. I have three stands from 20 to 50 yards apart from where the camera and mineral is. Different stands for different wind directions. I hope it doesnt spook the deer too bad being close to the stands but its on the edge of a field so maybe it wont kick them out of the area. Not sure if I pulled off the right move or not.
