Does anyone use chocolate and peanut butter? They use that where I went in Maine. Tehy get the chocolate from candy companies that are trying out new "candies, candy bars" that are not available for sale or consuption til passed thru the FDA or whatever inspection personnel that need to give their ok to sell to the public. Most cases, the chocolate is shipped by the semi full for little more than fuel cost.

Yeah I got a kill tag too! My wife actually talked bear hunting with me on the way up north snowmobiling yeasterday! Gotta love that!

Does anyone use chocolate and peanut butter?

I've used peanut butter and it works really good, you can smear it around your bait and the bears can't take it and go eat it some where else. they pretty much have to stay there and lick it. As far as the chocolate goes, I never use big quantities, I might mix just a little in with something else. I have heard chocolate can be fatal to bears if consumed in big quantities, like it is for dogs.

Dave did you get yours for zone B? How long did it take you?

Chocolate is bad for bears. As Nut has stated. So I avoid using it.
As far as peanut butter goes... I used it a couple times and the bears didn't eat it very well. However, bears seem to be individuals, and what one likes another might not.

I use very little chocolate. When I first started guiding I made the fatal mistake of baiting with big chunks of chocolate. We started finding dead raccoons and other animals at my bait stations, I called the local vet and he told me to stop using chocolate in big amounts. Its a mistake I will never make again.

Last year I used 1200lbs of peanut butter, 9000lbs of apple and peach cobler pie filling, 35 barrels of sugar cones and much more. I went out and bought a cheap microwave oven for my garage, I take off the lids on the peanut butter, microwave it until it melts and pour it over the other bait in the bait buckets. They seemed to love it.

I don't use much chocolate either. Thanks for the tip on the peanut butter! I use lots of cones since I can readily get them and they keep forever!
