I logged onto the Waukesha Co mapping web-page and began researching the landowners by viewing the topo parcel map. I made a LOT of phone calls, knocked on too many doors, and finally reached an extremely nice woman who's graced me with sole permission to bow and gun hunt her 163 acres of butter land.
Unhunted for 3 years, the land shows promise with three 20 acre corn fields, marsh grass and dogwood inbetween with suitable stand trees mixed in. The further back you go to the south where the land butts up to the Fox River, 15 acres of great hardwoods - White Oak. On the other side of the river is Vernon Marsh, an area only accessible by canoe.
I visited the nice lady and her boyfriend, reviewed the plot maps and aerials, talked about conditions and "instances" (what if I run into a tree stand or trespasser?). . . At the end of the day, I walked out of there with a pack of brats, the go-ahead to bring an occasional friend of two, and the ability to gun hunt as well.
What does she want out of the deal? Nothing more than some venison - a deal maker that I can certainly afford

Check it out! More to come as trail cams are set mid summer and scouting energy becomes motivated.
