Poaching?
So about 6:00 tonight my dad calls me and tells me he thinks some one shot a deer behind the house. My parents own 28 acres, but it's just an empty field. Anyway, my dad was outside and heard three shots off to the west. A few minutes later a deer is walking across the field on three legs, the other one was dangling. He called the game warden, and then me. I went over and with binoculars could see it bedding on the fence line. At 7 the warden got there and we walked out there in the dark. The deer was gone, but he did find blood. He's coming back in the morning to find the deer and back track it to where it was shot. It's a shame someone would do that. I'll keep you posted on what he finds tomorrow.

Re: Poaching?
Actually it might be easy to catch them if the blood trail leads to private land... Keep us posted on how this turns out.

Wow - these are the things you never think you'll experience. Must have been a "food" thing when you think about the time of year they did this.. . No antlers.

Re: Poaching?
The conclusion of the story. The warden tracked the deer down to the river on the neighbors land behind my mom and dads, he lost it there, so no deer recovered. He back tracked it through my parents and neighbors with it's tracks, very little blood, most was where it laid down on the fence line. The deer got out of the muddy fields and onto dry ground and again he lost the track. So no deer and no explanation of what happened. It's to bad not to know what happened. Maybe it was hit by a car and the shots were coincidence, or maybe it was shot. Who knows, it just sucks it will go lie down, suffer and die.
