Living the dream...

Unread postby dan » Thu Apr 29, 2021 12:51 pm

Found this video in my archives unpublished... Its about 5 or 6 years old. At the time I decided not to release the full video so I wouldn't tip people off to what, or where I was hunting... And forgot all about this gem until re-discovering it just now... Enjoy!

Good thing for the archives!

Was anybody successful in figuring this 10 pointer out? Sure looked like a dandy buck.

Really enjoyed it.
Some awesome content on YouTube lately thanks for the knowledge you share.

I been on the beast for years and still learning new things all the time. Would've freaked me out have someone walking through a swamp yelling my name.
It's only April and I already miss being in the tree.

Dan first off this video was awesome and the area the big 10 was bedding is really similar to spot in MN I have been scouting. As long as I confirm the bucks are still there I plan to attack it this fall. I will have access from both the south and northwest per your drawing. My question is why on the first sit with SE wind why did you set up on the south side of the point? Wouldn't it have been better to sit on the north so if any does or small bucks got downwind they wouldn't spook?

Generally I try to push as close to the buck as possible, and only lightly take non target deer into consideration. My goal is to take one all or nothing shot at getting the target buck. Sitting back on the 1st hunt most often results in the buck not making it to me, or changing wroughts, and then during the night figuring out I was there and moving... I have found most of my success with mature bucks has come down to the 1st sit, and the right tree.

Nice video Dan. Always like the way you explain your thought process on your setups. Just out curiosity, how thick is that woods now that it has had a few years to grow?

Spots are almost unpenatrable, and other spots not so bad.

I was wondering if it was like that yet. I had my 15 acre wood lot behind the house clear cut in 17 and it is finally getting to where the deer are using it quite a bit now. Had a really nice buck back there last two summers. But he moves out before season starts. I was hoping this last summer he would stick around longer since my field was planted to corn but he disappeared off camera before opener. I don't go in the clear cut at all but get a ton of neighbor activity. I wasn't expecting a huge improvement but I only hunt back there once or twice a year. Just for fun normally don't see a whole lot. Everything around it has insane pressure.
