Scouting/Hunting Connecticut

Unread postby 3531usmc » Sun Mar 14, 2021 10:34 am

New beast member and new hunter. First year using beast tactics scouting public land learning a lot. The dvds Dan made are very helpful (thanks Dan) especially for a new hunter learning. I am able to find beds with snow on the ground and there right where they should be. Still having a hard time with distinguishing beds without snow and when the leaves are still frozen. Logged some miles today scouting didn’t find too much but still had a blast being out in the woods!

You should find some good deer in cockaponset SF.

Welcome from a nh member! Typically you can find some hair in the beds without snow on the ground. Although sometimes you might have to move some leaves to find em. Good way to confirm if that depression in the ground is actually a bed.

Thanks for that advice tsom. Makes sense you might have to move leaves sometimes. How’s the hunting up in NH?

Welcome to the Beast Brother, Semper Fi! I’ve found a lot of good sign in CT on leeward hill sides in the MT Laurel. Good luck out there.

Well it worked out pretty good for me this last season anyway. I got a 7pt with the bow and an 8 with the rifle. Both stories I posted on here. Thanks to info gleaned from this site! Has definitely made me a more effective hunter.
