Pull Rope

Unread postby UncleBuck3268 » Sat Jan 16, 2021 3:35 pm

This may be an obvious answer to some, but how are you guys attaching your pull rope to yourself as you climb the tree you are hunting out of?

Do you tie it to your belt and simply climb? I am probably overthinking this.

I have to admit, I don’t wear a lineman’s belt climbing a tree. I just see it being too much of a hindrance around branches and such, but so is carrying my bow up the tree with me while climbing. I just see a pull rope being considerably easier.

Appreciate any input.

I use the third hand archery rope. Doesn’t knot up like paracord. It comes with a small clip that I just clip to a belt loop or my harness.

Some 3/4” nylon webbing with a carabiner at each end works better than rope because it won’t tangle on itself, and is easy to roll up. It’s light just attach it to a belt loop.

And do yourself a favor wear a lineman’s belt. Make two out of Amsteel with a carabiner at one end so you can transfer over branches without ever being disconnected. Falling hurts.

Nylon web strap. Clipped to my saddle. But you could clip it to a belt loop or to molle loops on a vest or pack. Let me see if I can find a pic. .

I do need to find a way to secure where the latch closes, because I had an instance where the strap worked under the latch and I almost had disaster. I'm thinking some floral wire or bread wrap tie or something.

I use paracord as my haul rope and two Nite Ize small carabiners with locks. I attach it to my safety harness and to my bow. I climb up into my stand and once strapped in for safety I pull up my bow. I do wrap my haul rope around a small length of 3/4” wood to keep it organized and preventing tangles.

I really appreciate the ideas from everybody. I had a few different ways I considered and this helps a lot. It is a simple step, but I almost hunt everyday and it’s just one of those little things that you must be fluent with along with many others to be successful in the stand, so thought I’d at least ask and see what others were doing.

They have locking ones? I'll have to look for those and repurpose the ones I'm using.

I use the HSS pull up rope with the little hand crank to retract it. I clip in on my saddle or pants pocket

Hunting mobile I haven't found a perfect way, just the way that works for me. I use paracord and do my best to keep it neat and orderly.
