She was excited that we didn't come home empty handed!

Went for a quick walk this evening to retrieve a camera. Found 3 in a 1/2 mile loop. The pup found them after I kicked them out of the snow. I'll have to bring the older dog to find the other side.

Checked cameras last weekend and had pics of 5 different bucks. One was completely shed, one 4 pointer with one side shed and the others had both sides still.

Public land (VA mtns): Been watching a 9 pt up high on mtn all season. Was difficult to get in to him undetected due to the exact location he liked, he nearly always had everything in his favor. Put a 6 hr stalk on him in muzzleloader season only to be busted by a smaller buck about 75 yds away from him.

Anyway, my cam let me know when he lost his first antler, as well as when be lost his other antler.

Dumb luck finding his first shed. I had just called it a day after shed hunting and had started my decent down the mtn and almost stepped on it in open hardwoods, not on a trail, totally random spot. That was on Jan 9.

On Jan 14th I found his other shed within minutes of finally locating his northern bedding area. I was following his exit trail through a rock slide. It was just below a fallen tree he would have to jump over. Appears to me that the log was used to knock it off. He might have accidentally bumped it on that log or deliberately, no clue.

Could not be happier having found these sheds. Might be the only two I ever find in these mtns, they are hard to come by and God knows I’ve been covering some ground.

It’s pretty rare I find fresh sheds. Most times I’m finding stuff from 2 or more seasons back. Today I picked one up that has spent the last two years underwater. The area just recently dried up during the fall. No idea exactly what year this shed is from considering it was chewed on quite a bit before being submerged. Turns out this shed is the third left side I have from one buck. I’m lost on how old this buck could be and I had no new intel from him this season.

With all the snow moving through it’ll be well into March before I get to do any serious shed hunting.

I’ve got 4 sheds in the last 2 weeks. All have been on food sources and trails heading away from food.

That’s a nice one! With that dagger of a sticker on the bottom, he might be leaving some serious gouges on his rubs...
