Dave...

Unread postby dan » Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:53 pm

I have been hunting with my friend Dave Dockstader for decades. We ran all over the state chasing deer over the years. He was with me for the ups and the downs, and always had my back, and I always had his. If you really think about who your "true" friends are, you can probably count them on your fingers, perhaps on one hand. The better a guy like me does, and the more well known I get, the more "fake" friends come along who only care about you when your winning... Dave was around long before anybody knew who I was.

Over the years I watched a lot of people I cared a lot about get cancer. Ive noticed that many, perhaps most, end up dying. But of those that survive, the lucky ones dug down deep and fought back with everything they had and refused to lay down and die. Over the last 4 years I have watched Dave struggle in his fight against the "C" word. Its been a long hard battle for him, but he is still fighting, and still winning. He has not been able to hunt mobile, or run around the swamps like the old days, but he still gets out and tries.

I set up up some permanent stands in key locations for him this year and we both kept pressure off his farm so he could have a better hunt this year. I honestly felt a little guilty after shooting a nice buck on his Moms farm a few nights ago, although he was beaming ear to ear with a giant smile and genuine happiness for my success.

God works in mysterious ways, and Dave was over due for some good luck... What an epic hunt he had Saturday, and an up and down roller coaster of emotions... Im trying hard not to ruin it for you, but you won't want to miss the show we are airing tonight on my youtube channel as Dave dont let cancer stop him from victory...

Atta boy, Dave! You’re an inspiration and an example to all of us to keep fighting when the going gets tough. Can’t wait to see the video and cheer you on

That’s awesome Dan. Can’t wait to see his hunt. Dave seems like a genuinely good friend. You can tell that your guys’ friendship goes beyond just deer hunting. Those are the best relationships, and they aren’t always easy to come by.

I'm so happy to hear this! I've become a Dave fan over the last couple of years. He always seems like a calm and steady friend, and as you said, genuinely happy for you when you get a deer.
