Mature buck kills

Unread postby Burningbootleather » Fri Sep 11, 2020 11:25 am

Let’s get some data.

Of your mature buck kills (4.5+) how many fell between the dates:

August 15th-September 30th
October 1-October 31st
November 1st-November 30th (1)
December 1st-February 28th (1)

My kills are in parenthesis.. will put total of everyone’s so in parenthesis as a I go

Those are some broad dates! As best as I can remember...

August 15 - September 30 (1)
October 1 - November 30 (9)
December 1 - Feb 28 (4)

These are all public land bowkills other than one that I shot in November on private land.

Sorry I didn’t mean to cut October out.

I’m reading a book by Bobby Worthington and I’m curious how often deer are killed in October specifically

Pretty much differentiating Between summer pattern, “lull” period, rut, and late season.. which can be tricky with some rut dates being so late

Gotcha. I’ll break them down as you mention.

September (1) Food
October (3) one of these was in south GA during rut, one on first cold front of season - Oct. 11, and one pre rut - oct. 28.
November (6) All rut related
December (3) Food
January (1) Food

Aug-Sept (3)
Oct (10)
Nov(9)
Dec-Feb (5)

That’s all I can remember off the top of my head that were 4.5+

But Idk if you should count these for your data. I hunt the rut in each of those months.

November - 2

January- 1

I’ve got a decent number of other bucks, almost all in the November window. But the ones listed are for sure 4.5+ as I have multiple years of trail cam pictures. I’ve also seen two monsters at the very end of November. So if I was going to pick the two best days to see/shoot a slammer, it would be Black Friday or the last week of the season with snow.
