I learned long ago just by hooking strips of cutbait and setting in the current before me to see how it hangs in the water in an effort to create the most steady, easy to eat filet'o'fish for the big lazy cats.
I've since realized that if your have a corner to a long strip of meat, it is best to hook in the corner to AVOID TWIRLING. This method ultimately allows the bait to hang horizontal like in the picture in the direction of the current to avoid the erratic movement of cutbait hooked in the middle or even on the edge yet middle.
Any opinions, suggestions?

makes sense...when you make cut bait, do you leave the skin on or do you skin your fish? I find that it will stay on the hook better with skin on, but not sure if this affects fishing at all???
