Congrats to all of the killers!

Over the weekend I was at a buddy’s camp for the rifle bear opener. Logged in a ton of miles and had a great time. No bear but one in our group missed one.

Fresh snow yesterday, I should have stayed home  , 8-10 miles of back roads and nothing big/fresh enough to follow, hit some gated roads and another 5-6 miles and nothing worth chasing, only two sets of tracks on my hikes. It is like we say in the bigwoods, all the deer have to be somewhere, but I have no clue where. Of course 16 days of rifle pressure will do that.

It is amazing how they seemingly go underground.

No doubt, I have dreamed of jumping 5-6 big bucks in a swamp somewhere, just can't seem to find the right one. Of course some of the swamps up here are ten square miles so endless hiding spots.

Jumped a few in the dark this morning. After hanging in the tree and freezing I climbed down and hiked another 300 yards through the cattails to a lone island in the marsh. Jumped one unknown when I approached the island. Found a Spartan cell cam, gave it a few waves, so someone on here probably has me on camera. They did some trimming to give themselves some room to climb a tree and have a chip shot in front of the camera. I assume they are after a big buck only, because I would NEVER drag a doe out from here.

I said something real similar this year. Only a dummy would shoot a doe across the river a mile from the truck

But said dummy is also going to be eating backstraps this week 8-)

Congrats Kylewi!

Good luck to everyone out. Especially to Dan and the THP group here in WI. I was wondering why I saw 8+ vehicles where there was only one or two on Saturday. I’ll be looking forward to the updates to see if you drive anything out that I missed on Saturday in that section! After knowing all those killers are around, looks like I’ll have to go elsewhere if I get out at all this week or during muzzleloader.

After my long hike out to an island in a marsh, I decided it was time to head home early. I just would not have physically been able to drag anything out this evening way back there.
