I left work an hour early today to scout.

Brand new spot and it looked...ok. Definite possibilities but nothing special. No rubs from this year and no scrapes. Very few old rubs. Would loooove to let a cam soak here but can’t. :snooty:

There’s a nice little opening in the slew right next to the bedding and I’m wondering if the duck hunters had the deer pushed out?? not much for fresh tracks. Didn’t bump anything that I’m aware of. I did find a decent rut set and some nice beds though. There’s a patch of grass in the middle of some NASTY thick buckthorn. Bedding magnet!

Last pic is the thinnest the buckthorn got.

Will add the info to my journal and file away the info! If I ever hear of a big one in the area I at least have something to go on. Plus I pinned this spot this spring and was dying to see what I was missing. Always have fun checking out new ground!

That sign just screams big buck!

Waiting for the wind to be right to get into an area I believe is buck bedding. Had a trail cam up that led me to this spot. Hoping tomorrow is the day I can sit it.

Finally getting turned on to whitetails after my recovery from elk season. I start to get real excited about 10-15

Lost my compass, started digging in my pack for it and found a rotten banana. Bad sign. Should’ve just went home at that point

Had a good hunt tonight. Had an adult doe and this guy at just shy of 30 yds. Finally got to see him up close and in person and he’s a great looking buck, just not what I’m after.

They were not together, but came from the same 1/2 acre bedding area about 5 minutes apart.

That sign just screams big buck!

The only indication I had of a big buck being around was bed size. And in grass like that if they get used repeatedly they get rounded out. So it’s hard to say for sure. But you’re right they were definitely big.

I saw no big tracks, no big poop (actually never found a single turd), and nothing even close to a big rub. The 4-5 old rubs I found were all small diameter and low.

I’m not going to write the spot off, but I’ve got spots with much better sign than this.

I’ve learned that confidence is one of the most crucial factors to success. I’m not saying you’re wrong and that this isn’t a big buck spot, but it didn’t give me all that much confidence. ;) I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it though.

I rolled into ND tonight along with a mega cold front. Going to try and terrorize the deer for the next 3 days.
