Wisconsin DNR trying to change our gun seasons...

Unread postby dan » Tue Apr 14, 2020 8:38 am

Tell the WDNR " NO" to extended gun seasons... Starting tonight at 7pm you can vote on it using this link:

https://dnr.wi.gov/about/wcc/springhear ... PrAHEcVl0M

Back in the early 2000's the deer hunting in Wisconsin was incredible... There were public lands that were better than a lot of high priced leases... The DNR did everything they could to stop that. Unfortunately in Wisconsin our DNR is run by whomever is the Governor. Gov. Doyle decided to use CWD as an excuse to eradicate the entire deer herd in Southern Wisconsin. Lucky for us we voted Gov. Walker in who fired the nut jobs responsible, and hired more qualified wildlife experts rather than Doyles lawyers and friends. But, Walkers gone and Lib's are back, and they have a mission to get our population down to 5 deer per square mile... Let that sink in... How many shooter bucks you think are in a heard of 5? How many hunters per acre visit your public lands? Good luck getting new hunters to stick with it when they never see deer. Walker forced the WDNR to get input from hunters, he made them form an oversee committee in each county... Where walker failed is he let the WDNR pick the hunters and they cherry picked people they can control... Walker was way better than the Liberals, being he was a conservitive and a hunter, but even he should not be in total charge of our wildlife, it should be a voted position. They have tried everything to convince hunters to reduce the population... ASK any hunter in the north woods how much they like that reduced population... They want to do it down here too... They tried to force Earn-a-buck, they tried giving unlimited tags out, and we have fought them and won every time, but usually after severe damage to the heard. Look at these stupid doe seasons they put on us... They have ruined our traditional late season bow hunt, and thats not enough... Now they want to ruin our gun season too... If they put it during rut it will be ruined, and you will never get it back, just like we cant get rid of the late doe seasons...Ask Minnesota how well gun season in rut works? Minnesota would be one of the absolute best destinations for a hunter seeking big mature animals if it were not for there gun season dates... Bring that here? Thats cause they want the same as in Minnesota. Not only should we say " NO" we should also demand to have our late bow season back too... I would be willing to bet a lot more hunters would be mad as if they saw the stats that show 50% of the deer shot during the "doe" season are actually bucks. I talked to friends in the WDNR one who is a biologist who have told me that 39% of the "does" shot during the holiday hunt were button bucks, and 11% were shed bucks, and its expected a high amount of buck poaching goes on... Simply put bad management that needs new personal in charge... I would like to see the head DNR position to be a voted position rather than the Governor running it.

Here’s the actual list of questions.

10. Do you favor improving firearm deer hunting opportunities by extending the season to run for 19 consecutive days beginning on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving?

11. Do you support eliminating the antlerless-only holiday firearm deer season if an additional 10 days of firearm deer hunting will occur after the traditional 9-day season?

12. Do you:
□ A) favor restoring a 2 DAY REST PERIOD prior to the nine-day firearm season to reduce hunting pressure in order to increase excitement and anticipation for the premier hunting opportunity of the year?
□ B) favor restoring a 5 DAY REST PERIOD prior to the nine-day firearm season to reduce hunting pressure in order to increase excitement and anticipation for the premier hunting opportunity of the year?
□ C) favor NO CHANGE to the current season structure?
(Choose only one option. If you do not have an opinion, leave blank.)

13. Do you support restoring emphasis on Wisconsin’s firearm deer hunting opportunity by not having crossbow and archery buck tags valid during the firearm season?

14. Do you support allowing hunting with crossbows for everyone prior to the gun deer season from October 1st thru October 31st and reopening for the duration of the archery season after the gun deer season? Those 60 and over or holding a disabled permit will continue to be able to utilize crossbows for the full archery season.

15. Do you support simplifying regulations by eliminating the four deer management zones and continuing to manage deer harvest with county units and public or private land tags only?

16. Do you support the department working with the legislature to restrict the baiting and feeding of deer statewide?

17. Do you favor closing the crossbow season on November 1 and reopening it when the traditional firearm season opens?

Look at question 11... See how it’s worded? So if you answer No to 10, but yes to 11, does that really mean that you voted Yes on 10? They’re not giving you the option to abandon the antlerless hunt by itself, rather ONLY if a 19-day season happens.

And number 12... WHAT? Like 2-5 days is going to significantly reduce pressure? Give me a break! There will have been bowhunters and scads of other game hunters crawling through he woods for almost two months. Like a few days is going to be a game-changer? (also look at how it’s worded... “premier hunting opportunity of the year” who wrote this thing?)

What exactly is 13 supposed to accomplish? Anyone using those weapons is putting themselves at a disadvantage! And, again, the wording. I swear the Remington marketing department wrote this thing. Restoring emphasis? I wasn’t aware it was de-emphasized... or why that even matters.

On 14... so no crossbows the first two weeks of the season and missing all of November? Is crossbow really that damaging? More damaging than a 19-day gun season?

And 17... that’s just another way of asking 14. Who has it in for crossbows? As far as I’m concerned, that horse is out of the barn. It’s not a bullet. Is it easier than a vertical bow? Yes. But you still have to get into bow range. I don’t get it.

#10, Do you support wonderful great, awesome deer opertunities? or do you hate hunters and hunting? See how they word questions to get the answers they want... What a crock!
They should have me ask the question, if thats not biased then this shouldnt be:
#10 Do you support wittling away the deer heard till there ia only 5 deer per square mile and 36 hunters mer square mile, and do you support not seeing a deer at all for 3 straight seasons?

It's all about the money, and special interests groups! Very Sad!

It's like the DNR knows nothing about how to manage a deer herd! :snooty:

I voted no on darn near every question.

It seems like they hope people are asleep at the switch and let those dumb proposals sail through.

Done. Really interested to see the results on this. A few questions left no choice other than a "no comment". No way I could vote no for a longer gun season yet agree to allow the antlerless seasons. What kind of question was that? Both are really bad herd management when applied statewide.

Yeah, some of those were terribly worded questions.

He was probably looking at rules submitted for his county on those questions.
