That was a long walk... after yesterday afternoon, and last night's rain, I'm hoping this big open short green field were in will be a place to catch birds drying off. Few gobbles in the distance.

After having 2 older Tom's giving me fits the last 2 days. A move to the north a mile and a different set up, was the ticket.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Out in the same place I hunted the last few days. Heard one gobbling from the roost as soon as I got out of the truck at 445 this morning. Had a little difficulty pinpointing him because of the hills. Finally found him and set up on him around 530. Gobbled on the ground quite a bit until I got setup. Got myself into what i thought was a great setup probably about 100 to 150 yards away. Called a few times and scratched in the leaves and he went completely silent. Went quiet and sat on him for atleast a half hour and no a peep from him. Wasn't sure if he saw me and spooked when I was trying to setup or what. Struck out and tried to find a different bird I had heard earlier. No luck there so it basically turned into a deer scout at that point. Its about 730 at point and I need to be home by 8, I'm 3/4 of the way to the truck and the bird I sat in earlier starts gobbling his head off again. Gobbling ever minute or two and sounds like pretty much the same spot I left him but I'm out of time. Oh well maybe tomorrow

Re: Live from the field 2020
Rainy one day. Windy yesterday. The birds have been quiet. This morning is very frosty with almost zero wind and they are FIRED up. Lucky enough to be hunting a buddies place today in a spot where I saw 4 jakes 7 gobs and several hens yesterday. Fingers crossed they make their ways to this strut zone before I have to leave. Amazing natural chorus this morning.

Re: Live from the field 2020
Back out on the same property as the last 3 days this morning. They didnt gobble as early today as they have been but was able to locate one in about the same spot as Thursday morning. As I got closer I found out it was two Toms not one. They were roosted on the upper third of a finger ridge just off a big saddle. Thursday they flew down and strutted in and thru that saddle so I got on the other side of the ridge and snuck as far down into the saddle as I could. Ended up busting 4 hens out of the same tree they were in Thursday morning. Luckily they flew away from the Toms and never putted or anything. Got set up and did a few soft clucks and purrs and the Toms went nuts in the tree. At this point it was light enough I could see the closet one in his tree maybe 50 yards out. Waited till he left his branch and was on the other side of the ridge and cut on my box call a little and one good yelp and scratched jn the leaves. They came unglued and were both on me in less than a minute. It was still dark enough I had a hard time picking out his head but was able to get and good shot at 30 yards and was done but 540. Was a great morning. Now a few days off until 5th season on Wednesday!
