What was that like? Just curious of the symptoms.. Doesn’t sound fun.

Horrible. I felt like I was having a heart attack on the night of Halloween. Went to the ER the next day...and an EEG concluded my heart was in good condition. So then an MRI and a CT of my lungs found a large mass in my lung right behind my heart (which was why i was having sharp pain in my heart because it was compressing it.) Doctors told me i likely had lung cancer....which was a shocker to a 44 year old who had never smoked and had an office job all his life. They then did a bronchoscopy, where they went down my throat and cut a piece of the mass out of my lung. Concluded it wasn't lung cancer but was a fungal infection. The medication they wanted to give me was basically a chemo type toxic medication....but because they couldn't (and still can't) figure out what it is... so they held off giving it to me. The good news is that the mass is now about 75% the size of what it was in October-shrinking on its own. But the months of shortness of breath, chest pain, night sweats, losing weight....just brutal!

That sounds rough! I had heard of fungal Lung infections being a thing but never knew anyone who had one. I breathe a lot of bad crap in at work small metal particles, coolant and oil mist. My lungs seem real tired now a days and I’ve began wearing a mask. Everyone razzes me but hey you gotta be able to move air. I would think breathing something in out in the swamp would be very very low odds. Hopefully.
Hope you’re completely healed up soon. Stay healthy friend.

You should get checked out for COPD.

A lot of those coolants can harbor and nourish all kinds of little nasties if the reservoirs aren't cleaned daily. (Yeah right; as IF!)
Good call on the mask.

4 years ago i was diagnosed with histoplasmosis, witch sounds similar to what you described. symptoms were a severe cold/ flu for 4 or 5 days then after that i just had drag a$$ and shortness of breath. after about 6 weeks i finally went in and had it checked, they at first said nothing wrong, i insisted. after an xray they first said my lungs full of spots that could be cancer. after several more tests they concluded histoplasmosis and that i had it long enough that it was healing on its own. no treatments were given. they said i would have some scar tissue in my lungs that would heal slowly over time. ( i still use it as an excuse for not being in better shape) they said it comes from the soil or bird poop. the week before i got was spent in a pit blind goose hunting. 3 out of the 5 of us got it some worse than others.

Kroniik ,
You’re probably right.

As far as coolant goes I’ve really been a Thorn in their side. They do not change it and try and tell me it’s good for years.. so we clash there and we also clash a lot over them dumping coolant with waste oil mixture down the drain.. which they also tell me is ok.. I wonder how the city would like knowing there is waste coolant with fine metal particles going into the treatment center. Which is 12l14 containing a percentage of Lead.

If I didn’t hammer out so much crap for them despite my attitude they would probably can me

Sorry for sidetracking this post from swamp water to industrial chemicals

Thanks, Strange. Hope things improve at work. As a fellow Michigander...I hate hearing stuff like that about what gets dumped down the drain in our state....even though it happens in all states and very frequently. Still sucks...

Unfortunately all of my CT's and followups have been cancelled for the virus. So have no news really since January 2020. Sucks

When it comes to serious infections I don’t get em, I give em 8-) .
Once had a serious case of major flaming crotch rot from spear fishing in the Yellow Sea. Turned out that wasn’t the cause at all. Was from a 2 week Tdy to the Philippines and a lonely night at a juicy bar. Reminder boys never go diving in suspected fox holes with strapping on your Kevlar!

In my early 20s stepped on a rotten catfish head on the shoreline that messed me up pretty good. A few years later went to jump across a creek during deer season and landed on a piece of pipe with a 2 inch lag bolt that went through my foot. Worse pain I’ve ever been in was pulling my foot off that threaded lag bolt. Got a serious infection.

About 7 years ago I grabbed a standard water snake by the tail while fishing that bit me just above the knee. Due to ignorance I dam near lost my foot. In all my cases the infection ran down to lower extremities not to say your story isn’t legit. I’m not doctor, just a Rocket scientist. But infections are no joking matter. I try to take preventative action cause I’m highly accident prone. I get a tetanus shot yearly even though they are good for much longer. I take antibiotics like folks take vitamins. And if I can’t be safe, I atleast try to be sanitary!
