Finishing off a turkey
Since this will be my first year turkey hunting next month, how do you guys finish off a turkey that is flopping? I see alot of videos of guys that look like there stepping on the turkeys head but no one shows it or talks about it? What do you guys recommend for a newbie to do in that situation?

Re: Finishing off a turkey
Usually the flopping is just involuntary nerve twitching. Stepping on the head is the "just in case" thing to do if it doesnt stop flopping. You'll know if it's dead... watch its eyes. If they're still blinking and glossy give him good boot stomp.

Definitely step on the head and get ready to be kicked around cause those birds are a lot stronger than they look. Don’t ever try and grab their legs while they’re flopping either or you’ll figure out what the spurs are for real quick.

Re: Finishing off a turkey
First Turkey I ever shot. My dad shot at him first and knocked his feet out from under him, he then flew to me and I body shot him real good. We ended up going down and stepping on his head in a swamp puddle. Took about 10 minutes to kill that thing. I wanted to shoot him again but the adult I was with told me not to, I was only 14. Feel sorry for that bird now.
As muddy said most times if you hit them good they flop around but they are dead.

Turkeys are pretty tough critters. When I’m bow hunting them, I’m shooting until they’re dead and have been known to empty a quiver a time or two.
Boots, sticks, gun stocks, arrows, etc. all work. Unfortunately it’s not always a quick clean kill, and you have to finish the job you started.
