I’ve dumped a couple over the years with the gun. 3 different occasions were does coming straight at me with the 11-87 and Sabot slugs. Through the chest and out the poop shoot.
My gun buck this year also. Had my .270 with hand loaded 140 gr Barnes Triple Shock bullets @3120 FPS at the muzzle. Granted where I shot him it didn’t really matter what caliber/round I was using, but this round pummels any whitetail i shoot with it. Anyways, he got up before I was ready to get in an opening and check the bed. He bobbed and weaved his way away from me through red brush and I could only see his head for 0.5 seconds multiple times, and he wasn’t going in a straight line. I had a good idea where he was going, calmed myself a little, put the crosshairs where I was expecting him, took safety off and waited. Shortly, I saw the tips of his tunes coming up and as soon as I saw the back of his head, I let off a round. “Boom....Tha-WAAAAP!” Cycled the bolt and kept aiming but didn’t see anything for about 30 seconds. Went to check and he was laying upside down. Hit him in the back of the mellon and the bullet came out in the bridge of his nose. He never felt a thing.
