Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
Went and checked out a new area sunday evening. Found some decent sign, but nothing worth setting up and hunting by. Made a 4 mile loop and checked off an area though. Got a few more I'm going to try and hit this weekend and go pull one camera. There was actually a good line of these rubs, and good trail with those rubs and tracks coming to and from some pin oak trees that were dropping acorns. Was gonna hang a camera there but I had forgot to grab an sd card out of the truck

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
Found some good sign on a piece of public, found this bed 3 weeks ago and hung a camera a little bit a way from it and got this deer on camera. That tall rub was located 5 yards from the bed, I thought maybe he bent the tree over, but that tree was surprisingly stiff and I couldn't bend it much. Gonna slip in and hunt it this weekend and scout out another section afterwards if I have no luck.

Not a great picture but I also had this decent 2 1/2 year old walk inside of 20 yards from me.

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
Did some more scouting on the piece of public I have a gun permit for this weekend. Checked a suspected bedding area, found a lot of rubs, and one fresh bed that I bet I bumped the buck out of. Also went and pulled camera I've had soaking and had a new good 8 point on camera that I'd shoot. I'm hoping to get odd work early Friday and run down there and scout and pull other 2 cameras to find a good spot for the morning hunt Saturday. I have an idea of where I need to be, just would like to confirm my suspicions.... if I can't Friday, I'll just scout my way into there for the morning hunt.

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
Rubs and scrapes are showing up. Deer movement has been good in the early morning and late evening, woods seem dead mid-day in my area.

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
With all my tags being filled, I went ahead and started on my off season scouting today.
I’ve decided to break apart all properties into segments so that I thoroughly scout everything. The first property I’m scouting is the main place that I hunt. I started with the smallest segment. It is a long narrow piece that is approximately 23 acres. I don’t normally hunt this section, but after scouting it I should be. Scrape after scrape and heavy trails. One really great pinch point. Had a really nice shooter chase a doe by me twice while I was scouting. There wasn’t any bedding in this piece, but it appears it’s a good staging area and place to catch a cruising buck.

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
I got another segment scouted today.
Had a lot of doe sign in it, but very little buck sign. Only a few rubs and no scrapes. It appears that all the usage is from does, and it’s not all that fresh. I believe the majority of the deer have moved to a different segment, or over into the neighbors. This spot butts up against a neighbor, and several trails headed that direction. I won’t completely disregard this part of the farm, but it didn’t have near the buck sign that I would’ve liked to have seen. No matter what though, it allows me to learn where I should and shouldn’t be spending time. I’m learning something every time I step foot in the woods.

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
I haven't made an update in a while but I'm still hunting/scouting hard. Couple weeks ago I found some sign I just knew had to be a big deer, hung some cameras around the area and its chock full of big deer. I've got 4 shooters on camera in the area, all my cameras are on the fringes of it and all the bucks have been coming out out of it looking for does. 2nd rut is fixing to kick off here, scrapes being opened back up now and does are hitting what little food sources there is and I imagine bucks will be scent checking them, hopefully I can catch up with one of the late season giants

Re: 2020 Scouting Reports
I walked all around my favorite stand yesterday and did not find a single deer track. There were coyote tracks all over the place so I am going to hunt there for coyotes. I hope I get one . Never got one yet.

I was on Hwy 83 yesterday and saw what looked like a dog dragging something... wound up being a coyote that had gotten trapped and dislodged a leg trap from its stake and was dragging it around. I’d have whacked the thing if it was on public.
