Tonight was epic! I observed then went shining and I saw more shooter bucks tonight than all of last summer

Two were 3.5 year olds and one was a mature buck. He had a super deep forked g2. 140’s gross for sure, MAYBE even 150+ as a 9 pt. He was a BEAST!

I also saw a stud 2.5 year old (I think) 10 pt that looked like he would score 110” when done. Short on mass and g2 length. Still a nice buck for around here. I was seeing deer everywhere I went... the cold front really had them moving!

I’m all pumped up now ;)

Looks like you’ve been doing good, too 8-)

You seeing much for fawns out yet? I saw a few but not many. I don’t think they’re quite big enough yet...

Normally my buck to doe ratio is terrible. 5 or even 10 does per buck sometimes. But last night was 2 to 1. It was crazy. Lots of two year old bucks too. Some good looking up and comers...

I saw lot's of fawns out and about. When turkey season was still going. And right after. Haven't been out recently. Other aspects of life taking precedent right now.

Great night of summer scouting tonight. Found an awesome bed with a big old rub at a new spot that looked good cyberscouting.

Had time to take a quick peak at a couple other spots in the area and see how access was and found some fields that backed up to public riverbottom swamp. Glassed a nice 8pt.

Went to spot 3 and had this guy cross the road in front of me. There is an apple tree behind him just loaded with apples I will be back to check out this fall.

3/3 on new spots, cant complain

These pictures were taken this evening over a primo early season food source. The first deer I found his shed and beds while scouting this spring with a light snow on the ground. Wouldnt you know it he came from the same direction.
The second deer is a mature buck I have known about in the same area. He is now a heavy 13 pt. My goal is to get on him this season. I had several encounters with him early season last year but couldnt seal the deal. The closest I was able to get on him was 60 yds. I look forward to the chase this season.

I’ve got a buck shedding velvet already. The base of his right main beam. You can see the white antler and the velvet peel. Maybe an injury? Seems early

This weekend was the the first full weekend of no Walleye tournaments for me all season, and I made the most of it! Gotta day, the skeeters, deer and horseflies, heat, and humidity are awful, but it only means one thing...it’s crunch time and season is fast approaching!

Wife and kiddos we're out of town this weekend, so I went out exploring more public land. I put on somewhere between 14 and 15 miles according to On x.

Found some areas which might be okay during the rut, but mostly it was an exercise in crossing off some areas which are distant public and look good on computers but don't show big buck sign.

Found this guy.

Looks like some nice bucks are showing up for a lot of guys! Here’s two of the 7 different nice-to-good bucks I saw last night. Only two I got a semi decent pics of, but still not good ha. Freehanding the cell phone through the binocs while driving slow again makes for some blurry pics. I did actually come to a stop and as soon as I did, they took off. About 300 yds from the road

Went out to switch a trail cam spot earlier this week. Holy hungry deer flies!! I must have looked like an idiot running a mile through the woods flapping my hands over my head. I've never seen them so bad, must have had a swarm of 20 - 30 of them around me the whole time. Anyone else noticing how bad the deer flies are this year?

On the plus side, I did pull a couple pics of deer that have a strong desire to be my first archery buck.

I cut some grapevine last week to go put together a mock scrape and hang a trail camera. When I pulled into the parking lot I could tell nobody had been there since Turkey season would be my guess. I chose to not get out of the jeep and just turned around because I was swamped with the flies and I didn't care to open the door and let the 40-50 per window get an opportunity to get in especially since I had come from work and was planning to change clothes in the parking lot. I'll try again this week and be more prepared. I'll have my clothes treated with permethrin and something on my head to keep them off. However I think the deer and horse flies are crazy this year.
