My last scouting mission was the best day I've had this summer. I went into a piece that you have access by crossing a river. If you have waders,or hip boots, it really isn't that far of a walk. Even though it isn't a super long walk, it doesn't look like anyone has been in there. Found a pile of old buck sign, and jumped a few bucks in areas I suspected there would be bucks bedding, as well as some does. I have now walked into 11 different pieces in Maryland in the past month, but this one definitely has me the most excited.

I am starting to crank up the scouting outing, keeping track of bucks I see, wind direction and times they are seen. Went shining 2 nights ago and saw a good one on a piece I can hunt. Also shined a TANK (140-150 class around here) on some land I am hoping I can get permission on. Found these 2 shooters on a farm I have permission on.

Went out yesterday at dusk... Drove a while, but only does. I might be too impatient and jumping from place to place, but I'm not seeing anything great yet.

I went out over the weekend and found some old sign and summer bed. Likes like a doe and fawn next to a rock pile in a field.

Had to wear a face mask and gloves close to the swamp, it sounded like a stepped on a bees nest with so many skeeters buzzing around.

Walked a few miles yesterday setting mineral sites and trail cams. Found this brush base shredded. Best rub I've found in almost 2 years on this farm.

I struggle when thinking about how to hunt this place b/c there is a hard edge from woods to these grass buffers(which they mow) and then the crop fields. All the farms I hunt around here are for some reason 100% corn this year __ no soybeans! What a bummer as it makes glassing and shining almost impossible. In most spots if you want to glass an area you have to get like 100-150 yds close to where they are coming out.

I also have a theory that mature bucks when they get up aren't going to expose themselves on that open edge off of the woods until after dark or just before dark. So makes it super difficult to get eyeballs on them then narrow down where they are coming from.

I think he was a 2 year old last year. I have access to hunt this deer. 3.5s are usually what I shoot for

We need a cold front heat index over 100 here today. Been putting cams all over the state this year it's crazy.

Did a speed scout tonight of a spot I've always wondered about and this year it has beans bordering one side. Not a big spot and not a ton of brush but did see quite a bit of bedding sign. Not a ton of buck sign but did see multiple big tracks in and around the beans. Also bumped a 2 yr old atleast out of the beans in my way out tonight. Picked out a decent kill tree with solid access that should be safe visually from most of the bedding sign. Pretty excited about this for a first week or two of season spot.

Got up at 2 am Saturday morning to do some spotlighting before sunup, saw a lot of deer, 4 good bucks, and one that made me lock up the brakes. Starting to get amped up! Pic quality is pathetic, I know lol.

Went out tonight also and hoofed in about 1.25 miles from the parking area looking for a specific buck. Did not see him, but I had this guy and some does at about 400 yds. Nice public land 3-yr old, but I hope he survives this year
