Had a pretty bad asthma flare up this week, been out of work several days, doing breathing treatments and taking cortical steroids. It's finally starting to calm down today, which means I should be out scouting on a few days!

Found a balloon! On a field edge in a small ditch that dops into a creek. Heavy trail cutting across the head of the ditch 15 ft from it.

Been busy with work and a major remodel project on the side. Neither one will be letting up anytime soon, sure is good to get out on such a nice day.

Got back in a swamp that was frozen over today. Easy walking. Kicked a lot of deer. Cut some big tracks. Highlight rub...

I checked out several places on Saturday and they were all a bust. No big buck sign and very little deer sign. I did have one spot that I drove to but I think that my ONX map and the county tax map are wrong. It looks like private land to me for the access to get to the public. I didn't walk across that land. Will need to access via kayak or waders. Will hit it on another weekend. Drove around it and I really like the spot for early season. I think it holds alot of potential as there is some ag bordering it and access isn't easy. Ended up walking 8 miles and climbing 46 floors according to my iphone.

On my way home today I scouted some public that is almost half way between camp and home. I know it gets some pressure, but I plan on trying some early season sits there. It has some diverse habitat, but I will need to get some boots on the ground. I didn't have a ton of time so I simply was scouting from the truck.

Got steroid injections in my back today. Wife thought i should lay low as soon as she left i did the only thing a Beast should do i jumped in the truck and went to scout a little 60 acre chunk of public. Cattails with dogwood and a few small islands of really small popple trees. Crop on 3 sides.

I tell you what it was unbelivable the big sign i was finding ive really been focusing this year on over looked and i hope i found one hear. Found plenty of big buck beds big rubs all over with old historical big rubs.

May be wet enough to keep bow hunters out will have to be a ground swat no huntable trees. And i found 3 sheds as well.

So pretty good day considering how i thought it was gunna go 8-) Ill add to that most of the big beds i was finding. Were samwhiched inbetween a little popple island and a little pond in the cattails. Just kind of found that cool seeing how dans last video focused on thing just like that .

Today I was in Hill country. Hardwood ridge with a pretty defined military crest. The half mile ridge did not have a log road or trail on top so I thought it was worth a shot.
Overall it didn't show big sign but the bedding was in a huntable layout. Pretty thick and positioned for leeward winds during fall/winter.
New to me property so it was great seeing and walking a section. Hills are still a struggle but will keep after them. Probably hunt it during rut like Dan recommends. Found acorns still so it will take mating to get good movement I think.

Found a waist high rub or 6, a scrape between what I would call "micro edge" on a south west facing slope (leeward for my parts)...between pine thickets, some oaks, with middle age soft woods...all around an old homestead of public conservation area!

Scouted east side of marsh edge today. Found some beds, poop and one rub, also a fox den and very small bird nest about chin high in a sumac, maybe hummingbird.

I'm not sure how fresh that sign is.
Tomorrow will scout west side which I expect is used more because east side is behind houses. I wasn't ready to wade into the cattails quite yet. Didn't see noticeable deer trails into the cattails to follow, just a small trail with fox prints.

Went and scouted the driftless area today. What some rugged terrain lots of tall rubs and some big tracks. Couldnt locate buck bedding but was able to find doe bedding and some killer looking rut spots.

Went and pulled a camera I hung in December on some hill country public . I knew this area gets used quite a bit but wasn't sure how much. Got the camera and got some good mature shed bucks on it. Did some scouting around and never could find any beds, but I have an idea of where they might be some. Will check it out more in the coming weeks. Did find a couple good what I'd say is staging areas 100 yards or so from the food plot, that allow sight to the food plot and ability to wind check it too. Couple good rub and scrapes around also. Ready for next fall! Also found the first milkweed I've ever been able to find in Arkansas.
