Smoky Mountain Hogs

Hey Guys,

I bought some land in east Tennessee which borders the North Cherokee WMA on three sides. This is really great, hilly terrain with good bear and deer sign on the points. Does anyone have any experience hunting in the North Cherokee for hogs? I've found good sign on private land with a lot of ag, but I'm planning on scouting this winter for a place that holds good hog sign on the public side up in the mountains. Spoke with the forestry service and they gave me some leads but as is typical with hogs, it can be hit or miss based on the food sources. Any suggestions or ideas?

We have some hogs in southern wv. From what I understand they are found around hard mast acorns and hickory nuts. Without any mast they are hard to find at all in the woods.

They eat everything, creeks - like turkey they eat lizards & bugs ,but also graze like deer.
Better nose than a deer but worse vision, they'll bed on cliffs and under logs(no antlers) 200lb rabbits. I've seen them like crocodiles buried in leaves

I plan on staying high and working down into the creek bottoms. Did you get my pm?

Not familiar with where that WMA is, but I basically had to run a herd out of a campground up on top of a mountain when I was backpacking through the park a few years ago. That was up over 5000 feet. That would seem like some tough hunting in that terrain trying to pinpoint where they would be.

If they're anything like the pigs I hunt in Mizzou they're there one day and gone the next 4... always on the move.
