Re: 140" public or 160" private
Give me the 160" assuming its not canned.
The difference between 140 and 160 might only be 20" on paper, but looking at them there is a visual difference of magnitude. I know some people think we should move to a water displacement scoring system - I don't know about that, but that is sort of the genesis behind it. 160" is ALOT more bone than a 140".

I agree. The private I hunt in PA is hunted harder than the public that I hunt in Ohio.
Hunting both areas also, i agree too that most PA private is hunted harder and even abused much much more than any public.

Re: 140" public or 160" private
I would love to get either one. It's more about the hunt than anything.
Like everyone else, I would love to kill a 160"+ but to me it adds more to the enjoyment and a better memory if I had to work for it and figure out the pieces to the puzzle.
It wouldn't be near as fulfilling to kill a 140" public land buck, 50 yards from the parking lot, walking in for the first time with my stand on my back as it would to kill a 140" private land buck that I had to figure out how to pattern over the coarse of the season.

I’d probably have to take the 160” but I definitely don’t want it on some super managed farm where I’m just sitting in a box blind over a food plot. I like scouting and hunting accordingly so if it was that scenario I don’t care if it’s private or public I’m going for the biggest buck.

That is true. Spotted a 160+ during the rut this year sprinting after a doe. He was only on public for about 30 seconds and who knows where he wound up, but man, the big boys blow your mind.

A 160” right on the property line of private from public because that’s the only place you’ll find one on public land in Michigan. Or even better sitting on the line from an off limits sanctuary.Lol

I'll be happy with a 140 on private.

Re: 140" public or 160" private
I'll take the 160. Both private and public seem to get hit equally as hard in my area. The biggest advantage to private for me is being able to leave a pre set stand or use a wheeler for recovering a kill.
It only takes 15 seconds for the hunt of a lifetime.

I'd be happy with either. It's fun to figure it out and go hunt them down. Doesn't matter if it's on private or public land to me. I enjoy the chase.

Re: 140" public or 160" private
160" I have a few 140 public. I could care less where I'm shooting a quality buck as long as it's fair chase. I also enjoy a challenge so I'm setting goals I feel are realistic but still challenging given my situation. I think most people would best be served by that criteria. Do you as I don't care what others decide to shoot.

Re: 140" public or 160" private
At the end of the day I'm picking both. A 140 to me is a giant. A 160 to me is a giant. I could care less if it's public/private.
Now if I were to change the question a bit my answer would change. A 140 Northwoods/Bigwoods buck, or a 160 Iowa/Kansas buck, I'd take the 140 every time no questions asked.

Re: 140" public or 160" private
I haven’t tagged a buck since 2009 so I could care less about score or location. I just want a mature buck dead from my arrow with my tag on it.

Re: 140" public or 160" private
I would have to say the 140” public buck. Killing a buck of that caliber that anybody had a crack at is an accomplishment, as is any public land buck!
