Virginia Public Land Challenge
I’ve watched both of the public land challenges and I think there’s a lot to learn from them but not all of us are able to travel out of state. I was thinking that maybe in October of 2020 we could do a va public land challenge. It would be an opportunity for several guys from across the state or even surrounding states to get together and share ideas on how to break down a piece of public. Also be a good way to put a face to name with fellow beast members. I was thinking we could do it somewhere east of the blue ridge so everyone could have a third buck tag where we wouldn’t be quite as picky with the caliber of deer. Anybody have any interest in doing something like this?

What kind of terrain are you thinking? What part of the state?

I’m pretty much up for anything and always like to try something new. I usually hunt the mountains and ridges so I’d be willing to try flat country and swamps to anywhere in between. Really just wherever everyone else wants to try

Like I say I’m up for anything. Is there public land on Delmarva? I’ve heard of a few guys hunting Sitka deer there thru an outfitter. Are there Whitetails too?

I’m only familiar with Delaware and Maryland though. Never hunted VA. Could hit western part of VA near WV. I can think of multiple members from WV.

Well we can just see who all is interested and we can just figure out what works best for everybody. I’m pretty flexible and wouldn’t be opposed to doing it in WV either

I'm planning on hitting WV next year for the first time, so if you decide to do it there I might be interested.

I’m thinking we do it sometime in early October to try to beat some of the hunting pressure.

I have family in Haysi, Virginia on the western side. They said the deer numbers have really increased in that area in recent years. My grandpa grew up in those mountains when there was no deer.Always thought it would be cool to come and hunt there. I’m not sure how much public is in that area

Re: Virginia Public Land Challenge
Lots and lots of good public land in VA and some dandy bucks also. I'd prefer something north of Richmond just because I might be interested and i think that is neutral ground for a lot of guys on here.
I also wouldn't be opposed to going out there prior to our visit and maybe putting eyes on a couple pieces to make sure we can make the most of the trip. I could report back to the group even - I just know from experience down there that you don't know what you're going to get sometimes until you show up and time is always limited.
