I've had a Buck 110 folding hunter since I was 12. I've had a bladesmith buddy resharpen the blade a handful of times. Awesome knife. I probably have 15 knives total. Nothing super expensive, but I have one on me at all times.

My favorite for dressing deer is the D.H Russel Canadian Belt Knife (Grohmann GR1) The elliptical blade is terrific for dressing deer, it is comfortable in the hand, and holds an edge.

I’ve got a lot of knives. I have a buck 110 and an American made old timer folding lockblade hunter that stay in my meat pack. I also have an outdoor edge swing blade. I use a Rapala fillet life for boning and cutting up if it’s not boned in the field. However, my favorite is a case trapper that I have carried everyday for the last fifteen years that has gutted, skinned, and boned more deer than I care to count. I have another trapper on standby in case I lose this one. I don’t like big knives, I like sharp knives.

These are the ones I use for processing deer and field dressing. Wife got me the last one for Christmas this year so haven't got a chance to put it through its paces yet. But being a Dawson I am sure it will be flawless.

I have the Havalon replaceable blade and Outdoor Edge replaceable blade knives and love them. So easy to just dispose of a used blade. I am no bladesmith though lol. I use to have a Benchmade and absolutely LOVED that knife. Sold it though because it was a little too heavy for me. I'll probably end up buying another one with a lighter handle. I really want to get a nice fixed blade (Not folding) one as well. I have a BUCK fixed blade but TBH I'm not a huge fan. Maybe I need to try it out again. I'll check some of the other ones out that ppl have mentioned on this thread.

I have a Buck 110FG that I bought 40 years ago when I left for the service. It has been with me ever since. Many years ago I broke the tip off the blade digging a slug out of a tree and sent it in to buck for a replacement. Even though I told them I broke it doing something stupid they replaced the blade under warranty.

It is hard to beat buck knives and their lifetime warranty.

I have a few Carbon steel blades I use apple cider vinegar brought to a boil put knife of it for 10 minutes repeat process 3 -4 times to patina my blades. Takes about 40 minutes a blade plus resharpen time.

Stainless is far less matienence.

The pantina is done when the blade stops making bubbles.

I never liked the streaks mustard leaves so I started using this recipe.

This is just a basic mora companion.

I have 4 benchmades and I like all of them. 2 folders and 2 fixed. One folder is mini griptilian and the other is the north fork from the hunt series, that one is my favorate and is on me everyday. I got those folders because in Michigan edc has to be under 3", I'd rather not get hemmed up on a dumb thing like that. The other 2 are from the hunt series and they are the saddle mountain skinner with a gut hook and the other is hidden canyon. All the hunt series are s30v steel which chris reeves had a hand in, so you know it's good stuff.

Been looking at the saddle mountain and Purdue hunter knives. It would be used primarily for gutting and skinning deer. Do you think the folders are better or the fixed blades? Which one do you feel does a better job?

I like the saddle mountain a lot, I like gutting with that knife. Skinning I want a small knife, folder is fine, the hidden canyon is a pretty sweet small fixed.

I have both a Havalon Piranta Bolt and and Outdoor Edge Razor Lite and I prefer the outdoor edge. I completely deboned an entire bull elk last fall with only 2 blades.

The blade release with the outdoor edge is also much safer.
