The pond to the north is frozen so I plan to walk across it to get to that narrow land strip, as the parking lot is directly north of that pond and everything west of the pond is private. I am not sure if deer are hitting that ag field to the west or not but this is one of the few public spots I have actually pre season scouted and found beds on. My thought is that this is maybe more of a rut spot but I can never get to it with open water. I guess I "need" to buy a kayak?!?

Has anyone else had experience in a spot like this??

I’ve hunted similar and my personal thoughts are a older deer wont put themselves in a position to be psychically squished with no way out. If it’s a pretty wide gap I’ve seen them pretty much run the gauntlet with a nose wind. I personally prefer a pinch based of instincts vs a physical squeeze. But if u have a reason or sign to hunt it let er rip. They either use it or they don’t. So what does it hurt to give it a crack. I mean if they don’t then u didn’t mess anything up anyway and if they do then u got a chance. Only 1 way to find out.....

Thanks for the input. Helpful as always! I just saw a shooter standing on railroad tracks and on public so my plans are rapidly changing, ha!
