I'm no different than most of the bowhunters on this site with the exception of one thing. I didnt get into hunting gun or bow till a little later in life. I hunted a few times with my dad and brother and didnt really take to it too much when I was young. I went but I wasnt really into it.
At some point I started dabbling in gun hunting then muzzloader hunting then bow hunting. Everytime I got into something it was to extend my season and allow myself to chase deer longer.
I started out shooting does, then small bucks. I was never able to kill the big ones with the knowledge I had. I set out on a mission to read as much as I could from seasoned hunters, learned to read maps and topos, then eventually joined the beast. The information I gained from these resources was instrumental to my success. I started setting g higher goals for myself and reaching them. Then one year I told myself I'm going to shoot the biggest buck of my life to date this year. I set a goal and I worked at it every day.
I prepped trees, practiced shooting, ran cameras, scouted, and climbed trees the average hunter would want no business with and hunted on days most would stay home. I did what it took to propel myself into this new game of buck hunting. It's almost like a heavyweight training for a fight. I knew it wasnt going to be easy, I knew I had my work cut out for me, however I was willing to give it all. I reached my goal in 2017. From then on I never look back. Before you set a goal you need to ask yourself if your willing to put in the work it will take to reach it. If the answer is yes then your in for one heck of a ride!
I'm proud to call myself a beast now and owe alot to the ones on this site that have helped me reach my goals! Good luck to all you fellow beasts and aim high!

Congrats man! Setting goals is very powerful, especially when a guy starts putting time into thinking, planning, and executing the intermediate steps on the way to accomplishing the goal.

Re: Setting goals and reaching them.
Most guys would shoot something rather than push past the goals they set. Sticking with it is huge. Congratulations!
