Credit for a cape?

Has anyone ever received any type of credit from their taxidermist if they provide an untanned cape from a deer?

Never got credit but sold most of my muley buck capes to a local taxidermist. When I lived in MT. Plenty of hunters ruin the cape of a buck they then want mounted. The taxi usually want the capes to be of a larger size, big neck and long eye to nose measurements. Used to get $20-$30 dollars. Should be more $ these days!!

How long have you been debating? IME capes don’t do well in the fridge...

Might as well ask. I give a $50 credit for larger capes. I end up charging $50 for remounts or if the person needs a cape. The way I see it I break even and attract new customers in the process. Depends if the taxidermist needs capes or not.

Our neighbor next to us use to teach a taxi class at the community college. Every 6 capes we gave him he did a free mount. Our rule was whoever got the next mounter after free got to use it. I mounted a borderline 125 6 years ago cause it was free. Happy I did now as it turned out awesome

The taxi I was using would buy capes for $25, mounts were around $500. That would take a long time of donating capes to get a free mount.

From what I’ve seen, they will give you about $25 for a cape. If you want to buy one it’s $100. Seems like a pretty sweet deal for them.

But I guess... Like Joe Dirt says... this is a business it ain’t UNICEF.

I get a free euro for a good mature buck cape. I've known capes off giant bucks, in excellent swollen neck condition to go for $200 if they're cherry looking. My buddies full body cape out all of their bucks and sell those capes for more money than you'd think.
