What shoulder straps and waist support for stand?

Unread postby milkweed-militia » Fri Aug 16, 2019 5:46 am

I've read where quite a few of you use shoulder straps with a waist support on your stands.

My question is, what exact model of each are you using?

https://www.amazon.com/Enhanced-Shoulde ... 167&sr=8-3

These work great although they used to cost only $15... they make a waste strap too which is a must IMO. I’d try the local army surplus and see if you can find similar there for cheaper first.

If you usually carry a pack in, get a lumbar pack such as the monster fanny pack or tenzing. Let the bottom of the stand rest on the lumbar pack. This eliminates the need for a lumbar belt. Otherwise use what is the above picture.

last year I purchased a TSTS... Tree Stand Transportation System, it came from XOP, who I believe bought out the company. It works great, and takes the weight all off your back.

I have the same hip belt on my Assault and it's fairly comfortable. Definitely makes a difference if you're packing any kind of weight on your back. Search on Amazon for Molle waist belt. Got mine for like $10.

The waist belt is a HUGE improvement IMO. I often have long and/or nasty walks...it really takes the strain off my back. Heck, there was a day last season I still hunted with it on my back nearly dark to dark. I hiked back into a remote ridge where I expected to find bear sign....I was going to climb a tree when I found it...long story short, I never found what I was looking for. Ended up still hunting and scouting and covered a good bit of ground.

I was worried about the "footprint" and a deers view up at me..... doesn't seem to be an issue. I don't necessarily like it..but haven't had a known issue. I have had issues with straps and my pull-up rope blowing in the breeze..I've learned to tuck them away. I think movement is the killer. Catches their eye and they start really looking.

many people, including myself, have the MOLLE shoulder straps and MOLLE kidney belt on their stands. this is an excellent, and fairly affordable choice. you can get them used military issue on ebay and pay maybe 30 to 40 for a set of them. they really make the stand ride more comfortably on your back.

It is tough to beat Molle straps and waist belt imo.

I used the Molle system on my Summit when I hunted from trees as well. It cut the felt weigh by about 50%.

It is a great system but it needs to be setup properly, especially the waist belt. You should be carrying most of the weight on your hips not your back.
