Do You????????
Do you or have you trapped? I have found it very difficult to do both, this past season I didn't manage to get out bow hunting because I ran a line, and gun hunting was tuff because I had to check traps. I really enjoy trapping and will continue to do so, but probably not on a scale like I have...just curious how many of you guys on here trap or have trapped.....How do you think it has helped your deer hunting?

Re: Do You????????
I trapped when I was young.. It helped my hunting by teaching me how to observe subtle sign, and made me think about how to approach a set...
Trapping during hunting season does put a damper on hunting though...
But those of us who have at one time been trappers, have likely learned a few tricks they can apply to other critters...

Re: Do You????????
My dad and grandpa did some fox trapping. My grandpa also did a lot of mink and muskrat trapping. When my dad first started trapping fox things went real slow. He finally figured things out and really started catching them. He taught me a very valuable life lesson. He told me not to be excited about catching a fox or shooting a deer or catching a fish but instead figure out WHY you did it and you will be successful. I trapped fox until the early 80's. I got move involved in bow hunting and didn't have time to do both. I still miss fox trapping and one day I might just do it again.
Here's a few pics from the old days.

Re: Do You????????
WOW, now I want to trap a fox! Beautiful hides.
My dad did for many years when he was a late teen on into his late twenties.. I used to love listening to him tell me stories. Fox, muskrat, mink, otter, beaver, you name it, he trapped it. He still has many of his traps, but sold even more of them away.

ive been trapping with my grandpa and dad ever since i could ride along in the canoe or walk along the line with them, and loved every minute of it. ive been running my own lines for since i was old enough to and have enjoyed 11 seasons by myself. hopefully ill be able to continue doing this for as long as i can

I 've said it before and I'll say it again. I think trappers make great Whitetail hunters. I think it forces you to pay attention to the details, and do the small things correct. Wish I was a trapper
